Story

Help Karin Bethka Trapasso on her journey of healing.

Two years ago, Karin began experiencing pain and swelling in her foot. What started as a simple concern quickly escalated. She was diagnosed with Charcot Foot, a rare condition that causes bones in the foot to fracture and shift. The situation became life-threatening when an infection led to sepsis, which affected her heart and kidneys. It took nine long months, but Karin fought hard and began to recover—her foot was saved, though she remained fragile.

Recently, a small blister on her foot led to another infection and another bout of sepsis. This time, doctors had no choice but to amputate her leg below the knee. Karin now faces a long journey of physical and occupational therapy as she learns to adapt to a new way of life.

In the coming months, Karin and her family will need to make several home modifications, including installing a ramp, replacing their bathtub with a walk-in shower, and securing a narrow wheelchair for mobility. Additionally, her prosthesis is not fully covered by insurance, leaving them with significant out-of-pocket costs.

If you’re able to contribute to Karin’s GoFundMe, your support would mean the world to her and her family. Every donation helps lighten the load as she focuses on healing and regaining her independence. Please also consider sharing this with your network.

Karin has given so much to her students, friends, and community—now it’s our turn to give back to her.

Karin has always put her family and community first. She and her husband, Jim, are the proud parents of three amazing daughters, all currently in college and working hard to pursue their dreams.

As a beloved elementary teacher at East Syracuse Elementary, Karin has touched the lives of countless students from all backgrounds. Her classroom is a place of warmth, laughter, and learning—and she is determined to return to it in September.

Karin is known for her sense of humor, her endless compassion, and her selflessness. She’s the friend who shows up, the colleague who lifts others up, and the person who always thinks of everyone else before herself.

Let’s stack hands and help in supporting Karin and her family!
Thank you – XO
